Installing Double Curtain Rods

There is something empowering about taking control of the appearance of your home and doing something unique with it. One of the best ways to dramatically alter the appearance of a space in your home is by making a change to the window dressing with double curtain rods. Using different styles of drapes, there are a wide variety of things that you can do in order to improve upon their appearance. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through the use of a double curtain rod set to add extra interest to your window treatments.

Perhaps the best thing about using decorative double curtain rods is the fact that they allow you to combine two different drapery sets. By combining different colors and material textures together, you can create a style that perfectly matches your tastes. The result is a more attractive space that says something about you. It is certainly possible to buy double curtain rod hardware and install it in a way to accent the window dressing. At the same time, it is possible for you to take on this project yourself. If you have had a fair amount of experience in this type of home decorating, the project will only take about fifteen minutes. Even without a great deal of experience, the project can still be completed within an hour in most cases.

To start, you will need to make sure that you have all of the necessary parts in place. You will need two or three of the pieces which you will use as your double curtain rod brackets. They should have two mounting spaces for the poles which will be located about two inches apart. You will also need either two rods, or a set of double rod curtain rods.

Obviously, if you already have window dressing in place, you will need to remove it. If your current brackets do not have two mounting spaces, they will need to be replaced. If you do not already have window dressing in place, you will want to make some measurements in order to determine where to install the brackets for the new double curtain rods. Mark off the area where you will be drilling in the screws with a pencil before you get started. Place a level on the top of the pole in order to determine if it is level before drilling your holes. In most cases, you will want the poles to extend about two inches past the side of the window, and they should rest about four inches above it.

Next you will need to drill holes that will be used for the screws. If there are no wall studs, you will want to put drywall screw holders, or anchors, in first. This makes sure that the set will be held firmly in place so that the weight of the drapes does not cause the entire set to fall down. Check the supports in order to make sure that they are completely secured before you move forward. This is especially true if your drapes will be made using thick or heavy fabric.

Once the supports have been put in place, the installation is fairly simple and straightforward. The poles can simply be placed over top of the supports. Once you have ensured that the poles are completely level, you can begin hanging your drapes from them. Remove the poles from their supports, and insert them into the pockets for the drapes. You can then place the poles back into their supports. The pole that will be closest to the window should be installed first.

It is often a good idea to use two different types of materials for the drapes. The one closest to the window is typically a more translucent fabric that can be drawn without blocking out all of the light. The second drape is often more ornate, and typically thicker, for greater privacy and thermal insulation. This provides you with a great deal more options to express your style when it comes to window decoration.
